Vedagna Vemula Week#6 Why?..Just why?

In my last blog I mentioned that I did not like listening to the news. I said that it never concerned me so I never bothered to know, and that is true. I started to wonder why I felt like I didn't care about what keeps happening around the world- we all know the importance of keeping up with the news; it raises awareness, it keeps us informed, it makes someone famous and it ruins someone’s life. News holds a lot of power and it also shows our right to speak and our freedom of speech. 

With the freedom of speech, some people spread love and care and other wonderful things like charities, birthday parties and sugar and spice and everything nice and I LOVE THAT, I LOVE PEOPLE SPREADING LOVE AND I WILL DIE SUPPORTING THEM. 

But then there are people who just don't. 

But that's fine I guess, no one NEEDS to spread goodness if they don't want to- it’s not a job and there is nothing worse than just doing it out of obligation with no heart behind it- and I can live with that.

BUT. WHY. DO. THEY. SPREAD. HATE?? 

It is not hard to NOT do stuff like murder, theft and hate crimes. If it came out of desperation and life threatening circumstances then that is something that is understandable.

BUT IT IS ALMOST NEVER OUT OF DESPERIATION. 

An Indiana man killed 2 CHILDREN in a house fire and because of what? Ego? Failing relationship? How did he come to the conclusion that murder is going to solve this failing love life? Why was murder even a default in a situation like that? A 5 and 8 year old died, burned in their own home, by a man who they probably called ‘dad’ and they will never get to go to high school or college or get a job because they were killed due to poor impulse control..a control that brings MURDER. The woman he dated was probably destroyed. She lost her children, her home, whatever hope she held onto for her failing relationship… and all because of a pathetic, grown man and a communication problem.

And it is not just that.  

A Maryland man thought it was a great idea to vandalize graves. GRAVES. So now the dead can't even rest? Dead people- good or bad- deserve to be buried in peace with whatever religion they chose to believe in to lead them onto after life. But apparently that is too much to ask. Apparently there are people who STILL advocate hitler (I refuse to capitalize his name, he does not deserve proper English grammar)  and his stupid holocaust and his stupid beliefs that people deserve to die because of something like race and religion. 

And don't even get me started about why people have to spend thousands of dollars just to be buried. Why should I spend thousands of dollars to rest in peace? So, people cannot even be BURIED properly because they cannot AFFORD it? Even death is a market? DEATH. Really?

So, I am sorry I cannot sit through a single article without crashing out. Actually, NO, I am not sorry for not being able to handle the news. Why does the world keep spiraling out of control and make it impossible to live in society because everything is too expensive? Why does history keep repeating itself when we are specifically taught not to? Why do people do things like murder? Why is everything a monopoly? Why are there things like social hierarchy when everyone keeps preaching about equality? Why do people spread awareness when the said awareness does not bring change? Or enough change to actually make a difference anyway. Why do people hurt each other?

And all of this?- it is coming from a person who BARELY listens to the news. How does it not bother people who listen to it everyday? How does it not eat people alive that no matter what their efforts are, all of it goes down to flames because humans are being humans.

Moral of the story? I need to take a chill pill and pretend that everything is fine when it is not. Cry myself to sleep because I am too tired to be a ‘glass half full’ person and inevitably become a cog in a society where simple compassion is a privilege. 

… It’s whatever.

Qinwei Wu: Week 2- I Love Music!

It is so incredible that humans have invented so many ways to create music. Somehow, a collection of sounds turns into music and becomes something that so many people, including myself, love. Qinwei Wu, Week 1, "I'm not even Chinese!"

  Picture Credit A few days ago, I was sitting with my friends in flex. We all had things that we needed to do, but we still had a long conversation. We started off by talking about school. My friend talked about her physics test that went horribly, and I talked about my chemistry test that went horribly. As we talked, we went through several topics until my friend talked about something that felt familiar.  She said that ever since her sister started attending middle school, her sister has had more of an attitude.
